The CD4511B BCD-to-seven segment latch/ decoder/driver isconstructed with complementary MOS (CMOS) enhancement modedevices and NPN bipolar out- put drivers in a single monolithicstructure. The circuit pro- vides the functions of a 4-bit storage latch, an 8421 BCD-to- seven segment decoder, and an output drivecapability. Lamp test (LT), blanking (BI), and latch enable (LE) inputsare used to test the display, to turn-off or pulse modulate thebrightness of the display, and to store a BCD code, respectively. It canbe used with seven-segment light emit- ting diodes (LED), incandescent, fluorescent, gas discharge, or liquid crystal readoutseither directly or indirectly. Applications include instrument (e.g., counter, DVM, etc.) displaydriver, computer/calculator display driver, cockpit display driver, andvarious clock, watch, and timer uses.
